Reiki Information

What is the Origin of Reiki?

Founded in ancient Tibetan Buddhism, Reiki and Reiki Healing were re-discovered in the early 20th century by a Japanese Christian Theologian as he spent 14 years studying Christ’s healing powers. The principles of Reiki arrived on the U.S. shores in the late 70’s. There are currently over 200,000 Reiki practitioners worldwide. The Japanese word Reiki means "universal life energy."

Reiki as a Healing Force

For those looking to take an active role in their own healing, Reiki works with the practitioner and client to focus on imbalances in the system. Through visualization and opening of Chakras, healing can occur more rapidly and more completely. Chakra balancing of the body’s energy centers is thought to occur by raising the vibration rate throughout the body thus assisting the individual in dissolving energy blockages that can lead to disease and disharmony.

Reiki as a Spiritual Tool

No particular religious or spiritual belief is necessary to receive the spiritual or the psychological benefits of Reiki. The reported benefits of Reiki as a meditative and spiritual tool have spread quickly over the U.S., Europe, and Australia. Reiki can promote health, maintain well being, reduce stress, and assist people in attaining a higher consciousness. A Typical Session Each treatment session lasts about one hour. The clothed client is positioned on a treatment table. The practitioner starts with a body scan, running his or her hands above the entire body searching for imbalances in the energy centers. The client and practitioner then review the intent for the treatment. The practitioner then re-aligns the imbalances by slowly placing hands over each Chakra, pausing in areas that need specific attention, re-directing Reiki energy through their hands into the client’s body.
